Jamie Vardy has been backed to make a return to the Premier League this summer and sign for newly-promoted Hull City.

The Leicester City legend is set to leave Serie A side Cremonese following their relegation from the Italian top-flight.

Vardy had intended to sign a contract extension at the club if they survived, after initially signing a one-year deal.

However, now they have dropped down to Serie B, he will become a free agent yet again heading into the transfer window.

The 39-year-old left Leicester after 13 seasons last summer, during which he played 500 games and won the Premier League title.

His 145 goals for the Foxes in 342 top-flight games also place him in the league’s 100 club and 14th in the list of all-time top scorers.

So there’s no doubt that Vardy can score goals in England – and talkSPORT’s Jeff Stelling has backed newly-promoted Hull City to try to bring him in and add to their attacking options.

Stelling theorised on talkSPORT Breakfast: “I’m not sure he will be coming back to the Premier League…

“But when I look at Hull, the way they play, it might suit Jamie Vardy if he wants another crack at the Premier League.

“They’ve gone for experienced players, you look at their squad, it’s bang full of experienced players.

“And you don’t get much more experienced than Jamie Vardy.

“So if they could get someone who’s going to put the ball in the back of the net… they’ve got Oli McBurnie and he deserves a chance, but who knows?”

Vardy in Scotland?

Vardy has been tipped for a Premier League return, but he has also been linked with multiple other clubs in the past.

Before he joined Cremonese, Wrexham and Rangers were rumoured to potentially make a move, and the Scottish giants’ interest was mentioned again as the striker became free for a second time.

“No [he won’t sign for Rangers],” McCoist said after swiping left on the move during talkSPORT’s Transfer Tinder.

We’ve just signed Lawrence Shankland… I’m happy with Shankland and I’m willing to give the boy [Youssef] Chermiti another year.”

Stelling, who swiped right on the transfer, then intervened to say: “But Jamie Vardy’s an upgrade on Chermiti, surely?!”

“I know, but he’s 39,” an unconvinced McCoist replied. “I love him, but it’s because we’ve signed Lawrence Shankland and I think Shankland and Chermiti might do the business.”

The Italian Job

After ending his long Leicester career last summer, Vardy made the unexpected decision to head to Italy.

And his time at Cremonese may have been short, but he impressed in his one-season stint, doing his best to try and keep them up.

He scored seven times and provided three assists for the club in 29 appearances, netting two during their crucial run-in.

Vardy suffered a couple of injury problems in March and April though, which hampered his positive impact up front.

In the end, Cremonese were relegated, just like the veteran’s former club Leicester, leading to his expected departure.

It leaves the door open for his next step and could a return to the Premier League be on the cards?
