Jalen Hurts’ Eagles future thrown into doubt as Super Bowl champion shades QB with ultimate insult
Jalen Hurts’ future with the Philadelphia Eagles has been thrown into doubt amid a string of bombshell reports.
The quarterback, who was named Super Bowl MVP just 14 months ago, has been at the center of a recent media storm.

Last week, ESPN published an inside look at the ‘friction’ within the Eagles franchise in 2025, and noted Hurts now stands at a ‘crossroads’ in his career.
The Athletic has also revealed that frustrations have surfaced from ‘multiple’ offensive players over the quarterback’s approach, particularly against zone coverage and an apparent hesitancy to throw in tight windows, or downfield.
It’s safe to say that things have turned toxic in Philly, and amid all the noise, Hurts’ future is now hanging by a thread.
Eagles could part ways with Jalen Hurts as frustration grows
After the defending Super Bowl champions crashed out of the playoffs in a 19-23 wild-card loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the front office took a significant step toward trying to remedy one of the biggest issues with Hurts’ offense — his tendency to lean conservative.
Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo was fired, following an awkward sideline moment that was caught on camera, and was replaced by Sean Mannion.
But if things don’t improve in 2026, NFL insiders believe the Eagles and Hurts could part ways.
ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio noted that the team could be preparing to move on, given that sources were so quick to throw their franchise QB under the bus.
“The mere fact that the ESPN report exists becomes proof that the Eagles may be on the brink of playing hardball with Hurts,” Florio wrote.
“He’s signed through 2028, and after this season the dead-money charge slips to an eye-popping but manageable $67million, which could be spread over two years with a post-June 1 transaction.
“In recent years, several teams have done it. The Broncos with Russell Wilson, the Dolphins with Tua Tagovailoa, and the Cardinals with Kyler Murray.

“Wednesday’s article may be a pre-OTA shot across the bow to Hurts that his contract doesn’t translate to lifetime employment, and that if he doesn’t start doing what the Eagles want him to do he may be doing it somewhere else in 2027.”
The idea that the team could move on from Hurts was backed up by Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“The Eagles have no plans to extend Hurts’ contract this offseason, NFL sources said, even though teams with franchise quarterbacks often restructure contracts to create salary cap in return for more guaranteed years,” McLane reported.
Hurts is under contract through 2028. But his deal has an out after the 2027 season, even if it does come with a massive dead cap charge.
Just 14 months ago, it would have been unthinkable for the Eagles to move on from Hurts, but the noise is now growing to a level that is almost impossible to ignore.
And as the hit pieces continue to pile up, a former Super Bowl champion offered an interesting insight on playing against the quarterback.

NFL All-Pro hits Jalen Hurts with ultimate insult
Speaking on The Arena: Gridiron podcast, legendary Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David admitted his defense rarely had to gameplan for Hurts, because he wasn’t a major factor in the Eagles offense.
“You do get a lot of drama out of Philly,” David began.
“Honestly, for the first time, I think this year has been the most drama involved… with Jalen Hurts and the wide receiver situation with him and A.J. Brown.
“Granted, obviously, you’re gonna blame Jalen Hurts because he’s the quarterback, and he gotta get (Brown) the ball.
“But, we played him for the past however many years and really, sitting back from a football point of view and just watching, and after playing them, Jalen Hurts was never a guy who we worried about when we played the Eagles.
“Our gameplan was always, they have a great offensive line, that you gotta stop the run… and that may open up the passing game.”
David added that Hurts is a quarterback that could ‘pick you apart if you mess up’ but added that the Bucs attempted to show him different looks, and make him work hard to ‘beat’ them on the field.
The idea that Tampa Bay’s defense wasn’t ‘worried’ about Philly’s QB is arguably the ultimate insult, and feeds further into a growing suggestion that Hurts’ time with the Eagles could be coming to a close.
