ITV Racing Tips and Previews (Saturday 5th September 2026)

I’m really looking forward to ITV Racing on Saturday as there are some smart horses lining up! On top of that we have Constitution Hill back out in the September Stakes which should be a great race.

I have some strong bets pinpointed and have also found a bit of value in the concluding Group 1 Sprint Cup Stakes at Haydock.

Haydock 1.25 Betfair Backs Opinions Superior Mile Stakes (Group 3) Class 1 (3yo+) 1m

Group action to kick off ITV Racing on Saturday and I can see NEEDLE MATCH running a big race for William Haggas and Tom Marquand. He has always been well regarded and while things didn’t work out in the Guineas he was back on track at Leopardstown last month.

Sparan Nua was only fourth and that horse very nearly beat Kalpana in the Yorkshire Oaks so the form looks strong. He has more to come and is worth keeping on side.

Dancing Gemini has to give weight away to his younger rivals but has the class to be a big player albeit losing run definitely mounting up. Hankelow is probably the each way bet as he is better than he showed at York last time.

Bet on NEEDLE MATCH to win at 11/4 with Spreadex

Ascot 1.40 Schweppes Handicap Class 2 (3yo+) 7f

I thought that was a huge run from THUNDER CALL at this track last month. It wasn’t the best ride and he asked for an effort too late. The horse was picking up strongly at the line suggesting this step up to 7f should suit and with cut in the ground there is plenty to like.

He has only had six starts and you’d be foolish to rule out further progression. Hopefully it’ll be an opening double on ITV for trainer William Haggas.

Ghost Mode impressed winning on penultimate start but then could only finish fifth last time and this is coming soon enough off the back of that run. That could leave Addison Grey as the main danger as he looked good scoring at Newbury.

Haydock 1.55 Betfair Celebrates Bow Echo Ascendant Stakes (Listed Race) Class 1 (2yo) 1m

Bow Echo won this race 12 months ago so it is usually won by a nice horse. Godolphin saddle unbeaten colt FIRST LAW and he should have a great chance to make it a perfect 2-2 here.

This son of Too Darn Hot overcame inexperience to win at Sandown first time out and the runner-up Flight Tracker has gone close since bumping into a nice horse so the form is already starting to work out. He should know a lot more this time and can remain unbeaten.

Rocket Boy made a bright start springing an upset to win on debut at Yarmouth. He was held at Salisbury last time but you’d have to like the way he finished off the race so with more to come he can put up the most resistance.

Bet on FIRST LAW to win at 11/10 with Betfred

Ascot 2.10 tote.co.uk Money Back 2nd Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) Class 2 (3yo) 1m4f

Heyzoom looked a horse going places, winning at Newbury and then ran well beaten just three lengths behind Enceladus at Royal Ascot. He has more to come, so I am fearful, but at a short price I think there is value against.

ARCHERS BAY was mightily impressive clearing away from them here last month. The fourth Hoseki has won since to boost the form, and he has untapped potential over this trip, so could follow up.

Ancestor is certainly not out of it either, as he has only had three starts and has won two of them. He did well to prevail at Haydock and shapes like he will do even better at this trip now handicapping, so he is feared as well in a good race.

Bet on ARCHERS BAY each way at 11/2 with William Hill

Kempton (AW) 2.20 William Hill London Mile Series Final Handicap (Series Final – Qualified horses Only) Class 2 (3yo+) 1m

There are three horses I can see winning this, and they fill the top three places in the market.

CAVOLO NERO gets the vote though as he won going away when strongly fancied over C&D last month and is clearly progressive, arriving on a hat-trick now. The handicapper has reacted, but he still looks ahead of his mark, and I can see him taking a lot of beating under Kaiya Fraser.

Victory Ace is the danger as he couldn’t have been any more impressive, making it three wins in a row here over this track and trip last month. He has plenty of scope, so could have more in the locker. Warrior Mode is also a C&D winner and must enter calculations too.

Bet on CAVOLO NERO to win at 4/1 with BoyleSports

Haydock 2.30 Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Class 2 (3yo) 1m6f

It is hard to look past GALILEAN QUALITY here. He has already won three times this season and justified strong support to beat Fireblade at Ascot on penultimate start.

He beat all bar the progressive Infraad at York last month and had Mythical Bay, who is the biggest danger in the betting here miles behind. His form stacks up and he has won in soft ground in the past so should take a lot of beating.

Mythical Bay is probably better than he showed when down the field at York and had won his previous two before that so could still threaten even though strictly he has ground to make up.

Asia Force is unexposed and arrives with confidence high so shouldn’t be completely ignored either.

Bet on GALILEAN QUALITY to win at 2/1 with BetVictor

Kempton (AW) 2.50 William Hill September Stakes (Group 3) Class 1 (3yo+) 1m4f

It will be great to see Constitution Hill back out but he clearly faces a tough ask here.

TORNADO ALERT has untapped potential and ran huge in The Derby given he reared in the stalls and was keen throughout. He was an eye-catcher doing good late work to finish second in the Hampton Court Stakes and with more to come back over a mile and a half I can see him getting back to winning ways.

Gethin will likely go off favourite but he has a bit to prove following a heavy defeat in the Eclipse and he still needs to prove he wants this trip. I do see him as the danger though as on his best form he is quite clearly a danger to all.

Bet on TORNADO ALERT to win at 5/2 with Coral

Haydock 3.05 Betfair Exchange Old Borough Cup Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Class 2 (3yo+ 0-105) 1m6f

Aegean Prince will likely prove popular here but it is hard to know if he will be fully tuned up for this as we haven’t seen him for some 320 days. He ran well in Listed company when last seen though so will be dangerous if ready to roll.

I prefer FINALISE for William Haggas who hopefully would have landed a few winners by this point so this filly by Masar can keep the ball rolling. She hacked up at Kempton on penultimate start and then ran well when second at Goodwood. She is off a layoff too but now handicapping could begin to flourish.

Of the rest Ashnak is off a good mark and goes well in testing conditions so could run better than his price suggests. Hermetic is also worth a mention back on a surface that will suit and the yard have done well in this race down the years.

Haydock 3.40 Betfair Sprint Cup Stakes (Group 1) Class 1 (3yo+) 6f

The market principals have a bit to prove here so it might be worth taking a chance on PABORUS at a healthy each way price.

I thought he shaped better than the bare result at York last month and with this return to softer ground firmly in his favour and the promise of more to come back down to 6f he could surprise a few. I know his trainer Ed Bethell still thinks he is capable of better and he should go close on his best form.

Almeraq blew out at Newmarket but did impress at Royal Ascot and if bringing his best would be dangerous again. He is also proven on the ground so will definitely have his supporters.

Coppull is more than capable but they have kept him away from softer ground to this point so it is a bit of an unknown with him there.

My top tip for ITV Racing on Saturday

There are some fascinating clashes on Saturday and I’m keeping the faith with THUNDER CALL stepping back up to 7f and have put him in a double with the NAP in FIRST LAW who looks promising and can remain unbeaten in the Ascendant Stakes.
