Islanders’ Ryan Pulock undergoes shoulder surgery, gets training camp timeline
Ryan Pulock was a warrior for the New York Islanders this season, battling through a shoulder injury for most of the campaign but playing in 76 of the team’s 82 games. He finished the year with 27 points, averaging a little under 21 minutes per game, and a +9 rating, his best since the 2022-23 season. Pulock plays against the other team’s best players for the Islanders, which is why his return next season is important, according to Ethan Sears via X, formerly Twitter.
“Ryan Pulock opted to have shoulder surgery, a team spokesman tells me. He’ll be ready in time for training camp,” Sears reported.
Pulock spent most of the season playing alongside Calder Trophy finalist Matthew Schaefer, totaling 817 minutes. Pulock is the perfect pairing for the offensively-minded Schaefer, as he gives him a stay-at-home option for the young blueliner. The Islanders will want Schaefer to be as comfortable as possible in his second season, as he transitions toward being one of the best defenders in the league.
Pulock is heading into his 12th season with the Islanders, spending his entire career with New York. He has four years remaining on a deal that pays him $6.15 million annually, a great deal for someone who can be a constant presence next to Schaefer.
The Islanders narrowly missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season, but are hopeful that the hiring of Pete DeBoer will elevate them into a spot next season. With Pulock back at full health and any other additions they make this offseason, their chances are looking much better.
