Isaiah Knowles officially named QB1 at Florida A&M
Former Albany State quarterback Isaiah Knowles has officially been named QB1 at Florida A&M. Knowles transferred to Florida A&M following Quinn Gray’s announcement as head coach. It was widely believed that Knowles would follow Gray to Tallahassee and has now officially secured his spot at the top of the depth chart.
In a statement obtained by Florida A&M Athletics, Knowles spoke about his connection with Gray.
“Coach Gray is a great guy off the field,” Knowles said. “Building that relationship with him off the field and knowing the kind of father, husband, and man he is allowed us to click on the field. Any chance I get, I ask him questions about it to understand schemes and learn more. As someone who wants to go to play professional football, him teaching me progression reads, understanding why defenses do what they do, and teaching me how to be the ultimate leader of men is something that I’ve been blessed to be a part of. Any kid wanting to play college ball will have success as a player and growing into a man playing for Coach Gray.”
Knowles has spent the past three seasons playing for Gray at Albany State, arriving as a transfer from the Naval Academy and quickly becoming the perfect fit for Gray’s pass-first system. His debut season produced 879 passing yards and 10 touchdowns through the air, along with 216 rushing yards across seven games. But it was year two where things really took off.
In 2024, Knowles put up 2,555 passing yards and 32 touchdowns, adding three more scores on the ground. He was remarkably consistent, dipping below 200 passing yards just once all season, a 150-yard, two-touchdown outing against Fort Valley State that also included an interception. His best performance came against Allen University, where he threw for 372 yards and six touchdowns without a single pick, completing 75% of his passes.
Then came 2025, when Knowles carried Albany State to a season for the record books. He threw for 2,151 yards and 18 touchdowns against only six interceptions, while also punching in 18 rushing touchdowns on 285 yards on the ground. The Rams went undefeated in Division II, captured the SIAC Championship and made a deep playoff run, with Knowles earning SIAC Offensive Player of the Year honors for his role in it.
In a statement obtained by Florida A&M Athletics, Knowles spoke about being named SIAC Offensive Player of the Year.
“Being named the SIAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2024 and 2025 was truly a blessing and I give all the glory to God,” Knowles said. “Me getting those awards was a testament of how good we were offensively. The 2025 award was honestly surprising to me because I had missed three games due to an injury. Earning the OPOY award in 2025 and then the next day winning the SIAC championship was truly a blessing.”
Knowles now looks to start Gray’s tenure with the Rattlers successfully and once again lead a quick and pass-heavy offense.
