Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the five-time champions, have had a disappointing start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign, currently sitting at the bottom of the points table with three consecutive losses. While their batting showed some improvement in the recent defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), their bowling unit has been a major concern, failing to defend totals and control the flow of runs. CSK will now look to turn things around as they face Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 18 at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Here's CSK's predicted playing XI for Match 18 versus DC

Top Order: Sanju Samson (WK), Ruturaj Gaikwad (C), Ayush Mhatre

CSK are likely to persist with their opening combination of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson. Both batters have struggled for consistency in the first three matches, putting pressure on the middle order. A strong start from them will be crucial in this game. Youngster Ayush Mhatre, who impressed with a fine half-century against Punjab Kings (PBKS), will bat at No. 3 and will look to build on that performance despite the team’s loss.

Middle Order: Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Prashant Veer, Jamie Overton

The middle order could see a boost with the return of Dewald Brevis, who is back from injury and capable of dominating bowlers in the middle overs. Shivam Dube remains a key all-rounder, especially known for his aggressive batting against spin. Prashant Veer showed glimpses of promise in the RCB match and added depth to the lineup. Meanwhile, Jamie Overton has been a valuable contributor with both bat and ball, offering balance to the side.

Bowlers: Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Matt Henry, Khaleel Ahmed

CSK’s bowling lineup continues to be their weakest link. Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj have delivered decent spells but lacked the impact needed to secure wins. Matt Henry will lead the pace attack as the overseas option, while Noor Ahmad will handle spin duties. However, both departments must improve significantly, as inconsistency and expensive spells have cost CSK dearly so far.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) predicted playing XI vs Delhi Capitals (DC):

Sanju Samson (WK), Ruturaj Gaikwad (C), Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Prashant Veer, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Matt Henry, Khaleel Ahmed

Impact Player: Sarfaraz Khan
