A hilarious case of mistaken identity unfolded on social media after Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday. While RCB comfortably booked their place in the grand finale scheduled for May 31, an Atlanta-based construction company unexpectedly found itself at the centre of cricket fans’ attention.

The bizarre incident began after West Indies pacer Jason Holder dismissed Virat Kohli during the ninth over of RCB’s innings. Holder delivered a sharp ball onto the stumps, ending Kohli’s impressive knock of 43 runs off just 25 deliveries. Although the dismissal was a crucial breakthrough for GT, some disappointed fans reacted in an unusual manner.

Instead of directing their frustration at the cricketer Holder, several fans mistakenly flooded the Instagram page of ‘Holder Construction’, a construction company based in Atlanta, Georgia, with angry comments. Screenshots of the misplaced abuse quickly went viral across social media platforms, leaving users amused by the confusion. Many online users joked about the mix-up, while others expressed relief that the cricketer and his family were spared from the toxic reactions often seen after high-profile IPL matches.

The incident also revived conversations around online trolling in cricket. Only a few days earlier, Kohli’s heated on-field exchange with Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Travis Head had triggered a wave of hateful comments directed at Head’s wife on social media. Fans had reacted aggressively after the Australian batter appeared to challenge Kohli to play more attacking cricket during an IPL clash.

Despite his dismissal in Qualifier 1, Kohli continued his remarkable consistency in the tournament. The RCB star crossed the 600-run mark for the fourth consecutive IPL season, having scored 639 runs in 2023, 741 in 2024, and 657 in 2025. His explosive innings against Gujarat Titans provided the perfect platform for Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya to accelerate later in the innings.

Meanwhile, GT still has another opportunity to reach the final. They will now face the winner of the Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 for a place in the IPL 2026 final.
