Hurricanes’ Rod Brind’Amour drops brutally honest take on facing former team Flyers
Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour is as intense now as he was during his playing days, which both Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers fans can appreciate. The Hurricanes’ head coach split his entire playing career across both teams after spending his first two pro seasons with the St. Louis Blues. Still, he is putting his Flyers’ pride on the back burner as the teams face off in Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, according to Ashlyn Sullivan via X, formerly Twitter.

Brind’Amour nearly played an identical number of seasons for each team, with most of his individual success coming with the Flyers. He played 633 games over nine seasons in Philadelphia, recording 235 goals and 366 assists. The individual success didn’t come as much with the Hurricanes, recording 473 points in 694 games, but he won his only Stanley Cup as the team’s captain during the 2005-06 season.
Brind’Amour was a highly decorated player during his career, winning two Selke Trophies, a World Championship gold medal, a Spengler Cup, an NCAA Championship, and even a championship with his junior team before his pro career even began. The head coach is still trying to figure out a way to get Carolina over the top, but it’s hard to bet against the lifelong winner.
It feels like the 2026 playoffs are Brind’Amour’s best chance. All the big dogs of the Eastern Conference that gave them so much trouble in the past are out, and beating his old team on the way to his first championship as a head coach would be a bittersweet result for Rod Brind’Amour.
