How Karl-Anthony Towns saved New York from disaster in final second of Game 4

The New York Knicks came back from the jaws of defeat in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. They pulled off a historic 29-point comeback, with OG Anunoby’s game-winner giving the Knicks a commanding 3-1 lead.

While certainly OG was the obvious hero, it was Karl-Anthony Towns who played a crucial part, per ESPN. Dylan Harper was inbounding the ball in the final seconds, guarded by Towns. Harper threw the ball in, and Towns tipped it with his fingers before Stephon Castle was double-teammed in the paint, trying to get a shot off.

Thus, leading the Knicks to a 107-106 victory before an ecstatic crowd at Madison Square Garden.

The thing is, if Towns hadn’t tipped the ball, the Spurs would very likely have followed through on a game-winning shot.

Towns finished the game with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Knicks came into Game 4 needing to win after a devastating Game 3 loss that put the Spurs back into the series.

Towns is competing in his first NBA Finals. He is averaging 16.7 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game during the 2026 NBA Playoffs. Along the way, Towns has done an effective job at containing Victor Wembanyama. He has also shot 56.7% from the field and 47.3% from the 3-point line.

Without question, Game 4 will go down in history as one of the most consequential in NBA history.

The Knicks are in a prime position to win their first NBA championship since 1973. Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals will be on Saturday at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
