Harry Kane scores 50 for season and becomes Real Madrid’s all-time European tormentor-in-chief with stunning record

Harry Kane wrote his name into the history books yet again by scoring his 50th goal of the season against Real Madrid

The England captain got on the scoresheet in Bayern Munich‘s barnstorming Champions League quarter-final second leg clash to bring up his half-century of goals in all competitions for the campaign.

Bayern headed into the clash 2-1 up following their first-leg win at the Santiago Bernabeu, but quickly saw their lead wiped out as Arda Guler put Real Madrid in front after just one minute.

Aleksandar Pavlovic equalised for the hosts shortly after, but Guler then grabbed his second to put Real back in front.

Kane’s moment then came in the 38th minute, as the Englishman finished clinically after being played in by Dayot Upamecano.

His goal put Bayern back in front in the tie, but their lead didn’t last long, with Kylian Mbappe then levelling things up once again by grabbing Real Madrid’s third minutes later.

This wasn’t just a personal landmark for Kane – his latest strike also saw him reach another goalscoring milestone.

And he has done so in devastating fashion, with Kane taking just 42 games to reach the milestone number.

Real thorn in the side

Better still for Kane, he also recorded a unique piece of history by finding the net again against Real Madrid.

The 32-year-old boasts an impressive record, with two goals and two assists in his last four meetings with the European giants.

And his latest goal involvement means he is now the first player to score or assist in five consecutive Champions League appearances against Real.

Kane’s impressive record against the European giants dates back to his time at previous club Tottenham.

He began his goal contribution streak by assisting Christian Eriksen in a memorable 3-1 victory for Spurs at Wembley in 2017.

After joining Bayern in 2023, Kane got on the scoresheet in the first-leg of Bayern’s semi-final clash with Los Blancos in 2024, before grabbing another assist in the second leg in a 4-3 aggregate defeat.

The Englishman then kept up his streak in last week’s first leg clash at the Santiago Bernabeu, getting on a scoresheet in a 2-1 win.

But after finding the net at the Allianz Arena tonight, Kane has now become the most consistent thorn in Real Madrid’s side.

There was also another piece of history in it for the goal machine, who scored in his fifth consecutive Champions League game by netting against Madrid.

In doing so, Kane equalled Steven Gerrard‘s longest scoring streak for an English player in the competition, who recorded the same feat for Liverpool in the 2007/08 season.

What records has Kane set this season?

It has been a stunning individual season for Kane, with his historic strike against Real Madrid his latest goalscoring record this term.

In February, he reached the 500-goal mark in his career in fewer games than Cristiano Ronaldo.

A month later, a double in Bayern’s 4-1 win over Atalanta in March helped Kane reach 50 Champions League goals in just 66 games.

It meant Kane was the third-fastest player to score 50 goals in Europe’s elite club competition, beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to the milestone.

Only Erling Haaland and Ruud van Nistelrooy could boast a shorter time span to 50 Champions League goals, having done so in 49 and 62 games respectively.

And there is still one more record Kane will have his sights on, as he looks to beat Robert Lewandowski’s single-season goal record of 41 Bundesliga strikes.

Kane needs an mega haul of 10 goals in his final five games to do so, with his league tally currently sitting at 31 for the season.
