Guardians hero reacts after clutch walk-off hit vs. Royals

The Cleveland Guardians narrowly defeated the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday afternoon, as they earned a 2-1 victory at Progressive Field. Infielder Brayan Rocchio was the hero, as he came through with a clutch walk-off RBI hit in the bottom of the ninth inning.

After the game, Rocchio commented on the moment, via MLB.com. It was in the low 30’s in Cleveland on Tuesday, so Rocchio addressed the clutch hit despite the challenging weather.

“I mean to be honest, that was my first game cold like this, this type of weather,” Rocchio said. “I mean, I gotta be concentrated and be simple to get the job done.”

It was a quality outcome for the Guardians after the team received an unfortunate update before the contest, as shortstop Gabriel Arias was played on the injured list. Cleveland’s No. 16 overall prospect Juan Brito was promoted to the big leagues in a corresponding move. Brito hit a double in his first ever MLB at-bat on Tuesday.

Starting pitcher Gavin Williams performed well on the mound for the Guardians. The right-hander allowed only one hit and one run across 5.2 innings while recording eight strikeouts. The Guardians bullpen shut out the Royals the rest of the way and Rocchio came up clutch in the ninth inning to give Cleveland its seventh victory of the 2026 season. Cleveland is now 7-5 overall.

The Guardians will host the Royals once again on Wednesday afternoon with the series currently tied 1-1. Wednesday afternoon’s first pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM EST at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
