Golden Knights’ Carter Hart visibly emotional after Stanley Cup Final loss to Hurricanes
Carter Hart was terrific for the Vegas Golden Knights through the first three rounds of the 2026 postseason, but the Stanley Cup Final proved to be a different challenge.
The 27-year-old allowed four goals in each of the first five games against the Carolina Hurricanes, and although he surrendered just two in Game 6 at T-Mobile Arena, it wasn’t enough to force a decisive seventh contest.
The Hurricanes defeated the Golden Knights 3-0 on Sunday night to capture their second Stanley Cup championship and first since 2006.
Hart was especially impressive in the Western Conference Final against the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche, allowing just seven goals in a four-game sweep.
He was also outstanding earlier in the postseason against both the Utah Mammoth and Anaheim Ducks, helping Vegas reach the Stanley Cup Final for the second time in four years.
But Carolina’s relentless attack proved difficult to contain, and the Hurricanes consistently found ways to generate offense throughout the six-game series.
Hart was visibly emotional moments after the final horn sounded on Sunday, knowing just how close he came to winning his first NHL championship.

“We battled through a lot. Things were never easy the whole year,” defenseman Shea Theodore said afterwards, per NHL.com’s Paul Delos Santos. “We were down in games. We had a lot of comebacks, and we grinded right to the end to get to this point. I’m proud of all the guys. But it’s going to sting.”
“We battled our (butts) off this whole playoff, and we came up short, and it’s going to sting,” echoed Brayden McNabb. “It’s going to haunt us, but we’re proud of how we got here and how we played, and unfortunately, it just wasn’t good enough.”
Despite the disappointing ending, Hart remains firmly positioned as a key piece of Vegas’ future. He has one season remaining on his contract and will enter the 2026-27 campaign looking to help guide the Golden Knights back to the Final.
Although the Stanley Cup slipped away, Hart still delivered a rock solid postseason, finishing with 14 wins, a 2.56 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage in 22 appearances.
The emotions were evident after Game 6, but Hart’s performance throughout the spring remains a major reason the Golden Knights came within two wins of another world championship.
