Giants’ Jaxson Dart fired up for Malik Nabers’ ‘aura,’ Odell Beckham Jr. ‘leader’ role
Jaxson Dart will look to build on the momentum from his rookie year as he enters his second season with the New York Giants. Many are optimistic about his steady ascent, but Dart would be the first to admit that he still has plenty of work to do in training camp.
It did not take long for Dart to get the keys to the Giants last season, replacing Russell Wilson in Week 4. He utilized the all-around attributes that made him a top prospect out of Ole Miss, while also showcasing his leadership.
This year, the 23-year-old quarterback will have Malik Nabers as a target. They barely played together last season as Nabers was limited to four games due to an ACL injury. In a report from Giants Wire’s Dan Benton, Dart could not help but gush about the 23-year-old wide receiver.
“He definitely has a presence about him. There’s an aura that he has on the field that is exhilarating. It makes me happy. It makes everybody happy just to see him out there,” said Dart.
“I’ve got all the confidence in the world in him and his approach to the game, how much he’s missed being out there with the guys.”
The sophomore signal-caller was also impressed with Odell Beckham Jr., who is in his second stint with the Giants after his nine appearances with the Miami Dolphins last season. Dart said the 33-year-old wide receiver’s leadership has been laudable.
“You would think a lot of times when there’s a big comeback that it’s about the individual himself, but he’s really just about the teammates, the guys around him,” added Dart.
“I’ve loved having him here so far. He’s just a great guy. He’s a great leader. He’s had the ultimate experience of the highs and the lows.”
Dart touted the positivity of the Giants amid their training camp, noticing the shift in culture since the arrival of coach John Harbaugh.
He threw for 2,272 yards, 44 touchdowns, and five interceptions in his rookie campaign. He also rushed for 487 yards and nine touchdowns.
