Geno Smith assault allegations to be investigated further after case was seemingly closed
The case was seemingly closed by police in Davie, Florida, on the assault allegations against Geno Smith, but the New York Jets quarterback isn’t off the hook yet, as the investigation is still open.
After Andy Slater of Fox Sports South Florida (via Pro Football Talk) reported that police in Davie claimed the case was “no longer open,” one of the department’s detectives will investigate the case further.
This won’t be the only investigation of the situation. As PFT notes, Smith could face charges, and the NFL, under the Personal Conduct Policy, will also have to investigate the allegations.

Over the weekend, disturbing allegations arose from a woman named Kristen about Smith. He allegedly “attacked” her, and she explained the situation in a video on her Instagram Stories.

Today is the DAY! GENO SMITH beat my a$$ cause he HATES taking care of his special needs kid and can’t be left alone with him because he’d rather watch s*x online and play Call of Duty,” Kristen wrote over the video.
She followed it up with several posts. Kristen alleged that Smith wouldn’t give the police his home security footage, which would’ve shown the attack.
Kristen shared another video that showed Smith in her car. He allegedly “took my purse/keys” so that she couldn’t leave his property.
He has yet to respond to the allegations. It is unknown how this will impact his upcoming season with the Jets. He rejoined the team that drafted him in 2013 via trade.
Since his first stint with the Jets, he has played for the New York Giants, the Los Angeles Chargers, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Las Vegas Raiders. His lone season in Sin City in 2025 was a disaster. He was a couple of years removed from his Comeback Player of the Year season with the Seahawks, and he threw a league-leading 17 interceptions in 15 games.
