Gabriela Jaquez’s latest injury update hints at possible return

The Chicago Sky have been hit with a rash of injuries lately, contributing to their recent skid of losing six of their last 10 games. But help could be on the way in the form of Sky standout rookie Gabriela Jaquez who was recently upgraded on the team’s injury report ahead of their upcoming game against the Toronto Tempo.

Gabriela Jaquez was officially listed as questionable on the Sky’s injury report after having been ruled out for the past four games due to a knee injury. In addition to Jaquez, the Sky are without Rickea Jackson, DiJonai Carrington and Courtney Vandersloot. Jackson suffered a season-ending ACL injury while Carrington and Vandersloot have yet to make their 2026 season debuts.

The No. 5 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, Jaquez was off to a strong start to her rookie year before being sidelined. She was the second UCLA player drafted, and sixth overall as the Bruins set a record for having the most number of players taken in a single draft.

Jaquez appeared in the Sky’s first six games, all starts, at a little over 28 minutes per game. She was averaging 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals with splits of 42.9 percent shooting from the field, 33.3 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 88.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

She was fourth on the team in scoring behind only Jackson, Skylar Diggins and Kamilla Cardoso, respectively. With an early record of 4-6, the Sky are already on pace to surpass last season’s win total of 10. This is the Sky’s second season under Tyler Marsh as head coach.
