FIFA World Cup manager Fabio Cannavaro breaks silence on USA’s ‘disgraceful’ security search

With just a couple of days left for the FIFA World Cup to begin in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, things have already started getting chaotic. After Somali soccer referee Omar Artan was denied entry into the USA, Uzbekistan, and Senegal’s World Cup teams were also subjected to special security searches.

After eye-opening footage of their treatment of two 2026 World Cup national teams went viral, the United States security forces faced significant backlash on social media. According to First Post, US security forces and FIFA have been heavily criticized following revelations that players from Uzbekistan and Senegal underwent strict security checks when they arrived in the USA for the World Cup. Senegal’s national team was reportedly compelled to undergo bag inspections directly on the airport tarmac in San Antonio, Texas.

Uzbekistan’s players reportedly underwent drug-sniffing dog and metal detector checks when they arrived in New York for their friendly match against the Netherlands on Monday, Jun. 8, 2026.

Later, Uzbekistan’s head coach, Fabio Cannavaro, opened up to CGTN Sports Scene and described the incident. “They said to me it’s the rules, but in the end the check was only for us.” People on social media also opened up about the incident and shared their feelings. “Disgraceful,” wrote one comment. While another said, “The US is trying to make sure everything goes smooth.” Another comment said, “There is no reason why teams should be humiliated like this.”

Also, according to recent reports, Iran’s national soccer team has reportedly been informed they can only enter and leave the USA on the day of their matches. At the same time, Iraq striker Aymen Hussein was held at the airport and questioned for nearly seven hours.
