Expert tipster vs AI: World Cup accumulator for the weekend (20-21 June)
The World Cup action continues this weekend, as Groups E, F, G and H return for matchday two.
We have previewed five of the games taking place across Saturday and Sunday, starting with an all-European clash in Houston.
A £10 wager on our three-leg acca would pay out £46.64, while the same stake on our five-leg version offers a potential return of £141.46. Let’s see what our tipster’s AI opponent has to say:
Expert treble:
- Netherlands vs Sweden: Over 2.5 goals (8/11)
- Germany vs Ivory Coast: Both teams to score (4/6)
- Tunisia vs Japan: Japan to win (1/2)

Netherlands vs Sweden: Over 2.5 goals
The Netherlands twice let a lead slip on matchday one, as Japan held them to a 2-2 draw in their Group F opener.
Sweden were much more convincing, thrashing Tunisia 5-1 in one of the standout performances of the first set of group games.
Sweden finished bottom of their qualification group, but took full advantage of a back door into the play-offs via the Nations League.
Needless to say, the team currently managed by Graham Potter is unrecognisable from the one that amassed fewer points than Switzerland, Kosovo and Slovenia.
With Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak up front, Sweden pack a punch in forward areas. The two strikers linked up really well against Tunisia, so the Dutch backline will be busy here.
The Netherlands will back themselves to cause Sweden problems at the other end, so this has the makings of an entertaining encounter.

Best AI prediction: Over 2.5 goals
Germany vs Ivory Coast: Both teams to score
Germany and Ivory Coast were both victorious in their first matches, albeit in different ways. Germany survived a scare to thrash Curacao 7-1, while a last-gasp goal from Amad Diallo brought Ivory Coast a 1-0 win against Ecuador.
With three points to their names ahead of this weekend’s clash, the pressure on Germany and Ivory Coast is reduced.
With Curacao up next, the Ivorians should end the group phase on at least six points. Anything they get from this match will be considered a bonus.
Germany will control possession and aim to create overloads between the lines, with Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Felix Nmecha and Kai Havertz flooding that zone of the pitch.
A combative team, Ivory Coast will strive to shut down that space before launching quick counter-attacks down the flanks.
The Elephants have enough in attack to find the back of the net here, but keeping Germany out at the other end is a tall order.

Tunisia vs Japan: Japan to win
You do not often see a national team sack its manager after one game of a major tournament, but that is the decision Tunisia took after the 5-1 defeat by Sweden.
Sabri Lamouchi was relieved of his duties after Tunisia suffered their heaviest ever World Cup defeat. Herve Renard has been appointed as his replacement.
Needless to say, none of this is ideal preparation for what would have been a tricky test against Japan even in the best possible circumstances.
The Samurai Blue were not at their best in the 2-2 draw with the Netherlands, yet they showed fight and resilience to come from behind twice.
Japan are missing some key men at this tournament due to injury, but they still have enough quality in their ranks to beat Tunisia in the early hours of Sunday morning (BST).

Best AI prediction: BTTS – No
Spain vs Saudi Arabia: Spain to win the first half
Pre-tournament favourites Spain were humbled on matchday one, with debutants Cape Verde holding them to a 0-0 draw.
Spain created enough chances to have won the game, but it was not an entirely convincing display from Luis de la Fuente’s side.
Without Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, who were only fit enough to appear as second-half substitutes, Spain were short of ideas in the final third.
They will need to play with more urgency from the get-go against Saudi Arabia, who drew 1-1 with Uruguay last time out.
Like Cape Verde, the Saudis will pack men behind the ball and form a compact defensive shape, but if Yamal is fit to start, Spain should have more success early on. In their second game of the summer, we expect la Roja to be ahead at the interval.

Belgium vs Iran: Both teams to score
Belgium and Iran both had to come from behind to draw in their opening games of the tournament.
Belgium equalised against Egypt in the second half in a 1-1 stalemate, while Iran twice cancelled out New Zealand’s leads in a 2-2 tie.
New Zealand are the lowest-ranked team at this World Cup, but Iran carried a threat going forward. Given Belgium’s defensive deficiencies, they will back themselves to make the net bulge here.
At the same time, it is hard to see Iran keeping Belgium out at the other end. They really struggled to handle Chris Wood on matchday one, so Romelu Lukaku – a similarly tall, strong centre-forward – should have some joy up against the Iran centre-backs.
Both teams scored and conceded earlier this week and the same could happen when they go head-to-head in Los Angeles.
