Ex-76ers coach Brett Brown has perfect reaction to LeBron James, Jaylen Brown addition

LeBron James and Jaylen Brown recently went viral after a video of their workout with Tyrese Maxey was posted on social media. They looked impressive and menacing, sending a stern warning to the rest of the NBA that the Philadelphia 76ers are raring to wreak havoc.

Getting James and Brown instantly made Philadelphia a heavy favorite in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers have experienced marginal success in the playoffs, but all signs point to a long-overdue breakthrough in the upcoming season.

Brett Brown knows all about the arduous journey of the 76ers. He coached Philadelphia from 2013 to 2020, overseeing the so-called “Process Era.” While he failed to bring a title to the City of Brotherly Love, he is still supportive of the 76ers, lauding the arrival of James and Brown.

“I think it’s fantastic for the city. I think it’s an endorsement to the players and Nick (Nurse) that LeBron chose them. There’s a lot of great things to be admitted with LeBron’s decision to come to Philadelphia, and Jaylen (Brown)’s trade,” said Brown in a report from Liberty Baller’s Gordie Jones.

“It’s real. They’ve got a team that is as good as anybody in the league.”

Brown added that he is very excited for Joel Embiid, whom he helped develop into an MVP player. Embiid is the only remaining player coached by Brown in Philadelphia.

“It’s an opportunity, maybe the last, that he can do what I know down deep he wants to do, and that’s to be remembered as a champion. There’s a side of me that thinks like that as it relates to my old days with Philadelphia, and Joel especially,” said Brown.

Brown tallied a 221-344 record with the 76ers, steering them to three straight appearances in the playoffs from 2018 to 2020.

While Brown has returned to the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach and senior consultant, it is pretty clear that he will always cheer for the 76ers.
