Liverpool head into Sunday’s derby as favourites for victory despite being on a difficult run of form, crossing the city this weekend with four defeats in their last five matches in all competitions.

Three wins and a draw from the rest of those four matches leaves David Moyes’ side in a very promising position in the Premier League table as they bid to secure themselves a place in European competition for the first time in nine seasons.

The Toffees start the weekend sat eighth in the table, in what is expected to be good enough to secure a spot in next season’s Conference League, with only goal difference separating them from Brentford in seventh, and only a solitary point off Chelsea in sixth.

After a promising start at the club’s new home stadium, Moyes’ men found it difficult to pick up points at the Hill Dickinson, going seven matches without a home win, but have since won each of their last two in front of their home fans, including a notable 3-0 win over Chelsea in their most recent outing on their home patch.

Everton have only won one of the last nine Merseyside derbies, but Liverpool haven’t won either of their last two away matches against the Toffees, and head into their first trip to the Hill Dickinson out of form.
