Erling Haaland’s dad drops huge transfer bombshell before ‘legendary’ World Cup heroics against Brazil

Erling Haaland fired Norway into their first ever World Cup quarter-final as he continued his heroics by scoring twice in the 2-1 win over Brazil.

The Manchester City striker headed home in the 79th minute – bullying Arsenal foe Gabriel Magalhaes in the air as the pair renewed their rivalry on the biggest stage of all.

Giving his instant reaction to the goal on talkSPORT commentary, ex-Scotland international Mark McGhee said: “Haaland has bullied Gabriel, got around him, got above him.”

Haa la land

And Haaland then grabbed his second of the match at the MetLife Stadium with a stunning strike in the 90th minute.

Controlling the ball on the edge of the box, the 25-year-old then rifled the ball through Danilo’s legs and into the bottom right corner of goal.

Left in awe of the centre-forward’s prowess in front of goal, talkSPORT’s Joe Shennan said: “Erling Haaland, you beauty… the stuff of Norwegian legend.”

McGhee meanwhile simply stated: “Absolutely ridiculous.”

Haaland has now scored in 14 consecutive international games – bringing his Norway tally to a whopping 62 goals from just 54 outings.

He now sits on seven World Cup goals in North America – the joint-most alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

Brazil managed to halve the deficit in the tenth minute of stoppage time when Neymar converted a penalty after Leo Ostigard was adjudged to have fouled Casemiro.

It was the second spot-kick the Selecao had been awarded in the game, but Bruno Guimaraes had his first half effort saved by Orjan Nyland.

In doing so, the Newcastle midfielder – linked with a switch to Arsenal – became the first Brazlian to miss a World Cup penalty since 1986.

Norway managed to hold on for the crucial victory to set up a last-eight meeting against either England or co-hosts Mexico.

As for Brazil, they have failed to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 1990.

Prior to the clash between Norway and Brazil in New Jersey, Haaland’s dad Alf-Inge teased his son joining Real Madrid in the future.

His bombshell statement comes one month after City threatened legal action amid Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme’s claims he would sign Haaland this summer if he pipped Florentino Perez in the election, which he failed to achieve.

Speaking to DAZN ahead of Norway’s 2-1 win, Alf-Inge Haaland said: “Real Madrid move?

“He’s very happy at Manchester City and has a long contract.

“We’re waiting for the new season, but anyone would want to play for Madrid.

“You never know what can happen in football”.

Haaland extended his stay at the Etihad Stadium by signing a new contract in January of last year.

Since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Haaland has scored 162 goals in 198 appearances across all competitions.

In his four years at City, he has lifted nine major trophies – including two Premier League crowns, two FA Cups and one Champions League and League Cup apiece.

That is in addition to claiming three Premier League Golden Boot awards.
