England World Cup star told he can leave club as Cesc Fabregas’ Como launch bid

Trevoh Chalobah could be sold by Chelsea this summer, talkSPORT understands.

The defender is currently at the World Cup with England, but has yet to feature in their opening two games so far.

Chalobah was called up as a late replacement for Tino Livramento after the Newcastle man suffered a calf injury.

And while the 26-year-old’s immediate focus is on his international career, his future beyond that at club level is less secure.

It is understood the Blues are prepared to sell Chalobah this summer following the arrival of Xabi Alonso.

With the Spaniard keen to put down his stamp on the team, defence appears to be among his top priorities this summer.

talkSPORT recently revealed that Chelsea are set to complete the £52million signing of Atalanta defender Marco Palestra.

Meanwhile, they are also expected to open talks with Crystal Palace over the signing of centre-back Maxence Lacroix.

All of this would suggest that Chalobah is not part of the Blues’ future plans, as they look to build a new-look backline.

Blues reunion?

Cesc Fabregas‘ Como are understood to have launched a bid to sign Chalobah.

The Italian side are looking to strengthen this summer after securing Champions League qualification for the first time this season.

And ex-Chelsea star Fabregas appears to be keen to recruit a familiar face to boost his side in their European aspirations, having previously shared a dressing room with Chalobah in west London.

A Cobham academy graduate, Chalobah has been with the Blues since the age of eight.

He signed his first professional contract in March 2018 – while Fabregas was a key player for Chelsea.

Chalobah was named on the bench in the 2018 FA Cup final, when Chelsea beat Man United 1-0 at Wembley.

Fabregas played the full 90 minutes that day, but the two never shared the pitch together at Stamford Bridge.

But it’s fair to say Chalobah has done enough to catch his eye in the years since the Spaniard’s departure from the club in 2019.

After a series of loans in his early career, the centre-back has gone on to establish himself in the Blues backline in more recent seasons.

The 2025/26 campaign was his best yet in a Chelsea shirt, with the versatile defender one of their most consistent stars in a tough year for the club.

That form at centre-back, where he played 47 times across the year, saw him make England’s 55-man shortlist for the World Cup.

And while he didn’t make the cut for manager Thomas Tuchel‘s final 26, Chalobah was trusted with a call-up after right-back Livramento found himself ruled out of the tournament.
