Manchester City have won the FA Youth Cup for the fifth time thanks to goals from two familiar names.

The final saw City edge to a 2-1 triumph over bitter rivals Manchester United in front of a home crowd at the Academy Stadium.

First-team boss Pep Guardiola was amongst those watching on in the stands as was United manager Michael Carrick.

Meanwhile, the likes of Phil Foden, Antoine Semenyo, Nathan Ake, Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount were also spotted.

However, it was former England striker Emile Heskey who had the biggest cause to celebrate after his son scored the winner for City.

The son of another ex-Premier League star was also on the scoresheet in Manchester.

City win FA Youth Cup

Thursday’s final had appeared destined for extra-time after City’s opener was cancelled out by Godwill Kukonki during a frantic first half.

Their first goal had been scored by midfielder Floyd Samba, son of ex-Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher.

With the match poised at 1-1, though, Reigan Heskey produced a stunning solo effort to break the deadlock three minutes from time.

The 18-year-old winger drove into the United penalty area before shifting the ball inside onto his right foot.

Heskey then unleashed a powerful strike into the roof of the net to the delight of his team-mates.

As the City players celebrated wildly on the pitch, the TV cameras quickly panned to the stands where his dad was watching on.

The former Liverpool forward’s pride was clear to see as he pumped his fists in celebration.

Guardiola also appeared stunned by the quality of the strike, having handed Heskey his senior debut in the Carabao Cup back in September.

The teenager has caught the eye both at academy level and on the international stage this season.

Heskey scored four goals and provided three assists in five appearances for the Three Lions at the Under-17 World Cup.

Meanwhile, he has four goals and six assists for City’s under-21s in the Premier League 2.

He has a long way to go to match his dad’s tally, however, with Heskey Sr scoring 110 times in the Premier League as well as seven goals in 62 caps for England.

His son is not the only Heskey on the club’s books, though, with his older brother Jaden also at City.

Jaden made his first-team debut alongside his brother against Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup third round.

He has since made 20 Championship appearances on loan at Sheffield Wednesday after joining the Owls in January.

Samba’s son on the scoresheet

As well as Heskey’s heroics, Samba also produced a moment of magic in front of Guardiola and Co.

The 17-year-old’s brilliant free-kick landed in the top left-hand corner of goal to give City the lead during the opening 45 minutes.

It marked his third goal in six appearances during this season’s FA Youth Cup.

Samba, who has been capped by both England and France at youth level, has already played for City’s under-21 side.

Meanwhile, he has scored 11 goals in 11 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League this term.

Similarly to Heskey, Samba’s older brother is also part of City’s academy and started alongside them in the final.

Winger Tyrone Samba was previously an unused substitute for the first-team against Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League in January.

The pair will be hoping to follow in their father’s footsteps by establishing themselves in the Premier League.

Christopher Samba made 171 top-flight appearances for Blackburn and QPR, scoring 16 goals from centre-back.
