Ella Toone already eyeing up new career and reveals dream gig after football

Ella Toone is preparing for Manchester United’s upcoming season, but has told talkSPORT she wants to go on ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’.

The Lionesses star has been at Carrington as a professional player since 2018, having previously played for the club at junior level.

The midfielder has become the Red Devils’ all-time leading goal-scorer, netting 48 goals across nine seasons, as well as their record appearance maker with 213 caps for the side.

She has won two European titles with her country, becoming the only English player – man or woman – to score in the quarter-final, semi-final, and final of major international tournaments.

But Toone experienced a turbulent season last year after sustaining a hip injury in December, having scored three goals and provided five assists.

This summer, the playmaker has been celebrating after being awarded an MBE for services to football.

Additionally, she travelled to Ibiza for her hen do with several of her England teammates before getting married.

Jungle dreams

On talkSPORT, the Euros winner was asked what career path she will take when she eventually calls time on her playing days.

When asked whether she would be a coach, Toone said: “I couldn’t deal with players like me moaning every day at me.

“So, no. I just want to go on ‘I’m a Celeb’, really. I don’t know, I just enjoy being me.

“That’s the programme I’ve watched since being a little kid. And I’ve just loved it. And then you watch Jill Scott go and win it…”

Several former professional footballers have competed on the show, including Dennis Wise, Jimmy Bullard, and Ian Wright.

However, the only ex-player ever to win the show was former Lionesses captain Jill Scott in 2022, following the Euros victory.

Scott won with over 57 per cent of the vote having entered the jungle shortly after her retirement.

The 39-year-old has since become a regular football pundit and broadcaster across major networks, covering both men’s and women’s matches.

Similarly to Toone, she was also awarded an MBE in recognition of her ‘outstanding contribution to sports, specifically women’s sport.’

Toone was also asked whether she would also like to take up a career in punditry after she hangs up her boots.

She told talkSPORT: “I’d give it a go. I feel like I can talk a good game. I understand the game.

“But it’s obviously difficult when you’re sat watching it and whatever.

“I’d like to give it a try.”
