EFL star rejects new contract and instantly joins MLS club
Portsmouth midfielder Andre Dozzell will swap the Championship for MLS this summer after rejecting a new deal at Fratton Park.
Dozzell is out of contract at the end of June after two years on the south coast.

Despite being offered a new contract, Dozzell has opted to join DC United instead of remaining at Pompey.
The Championship side confirmed the news on Wednesday, with DC United announcing the signing at the same time.
Dozzell has penned a two-year deal in the USA through to the summer of 2028.
His contract also includes the option of a further 12 months, the club have confirmed.
Dozzell leaves Pompey
Following the news of his departure, Dozzell spoke to Portsmouth’s media channels.
He explained: “This is a special club, with special supporters, staff and players, all of whom have made my time at Pompey unforgettable.
“We have spent these two years fighting relegation and come out on top both times. The fans take a lot of credit for that because they stuck with us and helped us get over the line each time.
“I think that staying in the Championship has been a real achievement and hopefully now is the time for the club to really push on.
“It was an absolute privilege for me to represent Portsmouth FC and I will continue to watch what happens closely.
“I wish nothing but the very best for everyone who is associated with the club. Thank you and Play up Pompey!”

Dozzell will have to wait until the MLS season resumes following the World Cup to make his DC United debut.
His maiden appearance could come away to Houston Dynamo on July 23.
DC United currently sit fifth in the Eastern Conference after 11 matches this season.
The Eagles are four-time MLS Cup winners, with the last of those titles coming in 2004.
Dozzell’s EFL career
Pompey signed Dozzell on a free transfer in August 2024 upon their return to the second-tier after 12 years away.
The 27-year-old has since made 80 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring four goals and adding two assists.

In both of his seasons at Fratton Park, he helped Portsmouth secure Championship safety.
This season saw the club finish eight points clear of the relegation zone in 18th.
Dozzell began his career with Ipswich Town before moving to QPR in 2021.
The former England under-20 international also spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Birmingham City.
So far in his career, Dozzell has made a total of 202 Championship appearances.
