Edward Cabrera leaves Cubs-Brewers game with apparent injury

Chicago Cubs pitcher Edward Cabrera did not last very long on the mound during his Wednesday night start against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

Cabrera, who is in his first season with the Cubs, pitched for just three innings, allowing four runs (one unearned) on four hits with two walks issued and two strikeouts through 61 pitches before being removed from the contest because of an injury.

“Cubs pitcher Edward Cabrera leaves the game with an apparent injury after throwing one pitch in the fourth inning. Trent Thornton takes over,” Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

Rogers later relayed the Cubs’ announcement of a right middle finger issue for the 28-year-old righty.

Cabrera was acquired by the Cubs in January via a trade with the Miami Marlins in exchange for for Edgardo De Leon, Cristian Hernández and Owen Caissie.

It remains to be seen how severe Cabrera’s injury is, but it surely isn’t an ideal situation for the Cubs, especially since they are already dealing with other injuries to their pitching staff. Cade Horton is on the 60-day injured list, as is Justin Steele. Matthew Boyd, meanwhile, is on the 15-day injured list.

On top of the injuries, things are just not going very well on the field for the Cubs, who entered Wednesday’s meeting with the Brewers on a four-game losing streak and on the verge of getting swept in the series by their National League Central Division rivals.
