Eagles’ Howie Roseman makes guarantee about adding more players at this position

The Philadelphia Eagles saw numerous key defenders leave the franchise in free agency. Among them was safety Reed Blankenship.

But as the Eagles go through their offseason, Howie Roseman knows one thing for certain. Their safety room has not yet been settled, via Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94 WIP.

“We’ll add players at that position,” Roseman said of Philadelphia’s safety situation.

The 2026 NFL Draft gives the Eagles an opportunity to add long-term potential at the position. Whether or not their preferred player(s) is available though is an unknown. At this stage of free agency, most of the top names are already gone. But Philadelphia will still have their pick of the litter of what’s left.

Before any additions are made, Marcus Epps and Andrew Mukuba are projected to be the starting safety duo. After last playing for the team in 2022, Epps re-joined Philadelphia on a one-year contract in 2025. He appeared in 12 games, making four starts, and racked up 21 tackles. While his numbers don’t jump off the page, the Eagles re-signed him to another one-year deal in 2026.

Mukuba appeared in 11 games, with 10 starts as a rookie after being selected in the second-round. He made 46 tackles, three passes defended and two interceptions. However, an ankle fracture ended his season prematurely.

The Eagles believe both Epps and Mukuba could form a solid tandem. However, they must now replace the consistent play of Blankenship. Furthermore, Epps is now 30-years-old while Mukuba is coming off of a serious injury. More help may be required at the position.

Roseman at least thinks it does and plans to address his safety room at some point this offseason.
