Draymond Green breaks silence on Wemby’s dirty elbow with mic drop moment
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama let his emotion get the better of him during the team’s Game 4 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday after he was ejected after being called for a flagrant two foul for throwing an elbow at Wolves center Naz Reid. If there’s anyone in the NBA who knows what it’s like to be in that kind of a situation, it’s Golden State Warriors vet Draymond Green.
Sure enough, following Victor Wembanyama’s elbow that led to his flagrant foul and subsequent ejection, Draymond Green took to social media to respond to his name being inserted into the conversation. Responding to a fan who speculated what the punishment would have been for Green if he was the one in Wembanyama’s situation, Green summed it up with only a couple of words.
“Y’all have called for my career for less,” Green said on social media.
Following the game, it was announced that there would be no further punishment for the Spurs’ star, making Wembanyama available for the pivotal Game 5 of a series that’s now tied at two games apiece.
Green has certainly had his run-ins with the officiating and perceived dirty play over the past few seasons. He’s been suspended multiple times in his career, including a five-game suspension for putting Wolves big man Rudy Gobert in a headlock and a 12-game suspension for striking Jusuf Nurkic in the face.
As Green stated after the game, it’s not a stretch to think that further consequences might have come if that was Green instead of Wembanyama. But that also is because it’s a little self-inflicted.
