Dodgers release infielder with latest roster move
The Los Angeles Dodgers turned to their batting order to rough up the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday. But then pivoted to making a roster change Wednesday. The franchise and manager Dave Roberts tweaked up the infield with this MLB Free Agency move.
LA released infielder Tyler Fitzgerald, with Dodgers insider for the California Post Jack Harris revealing the decision. Harris added Fitzgerald was down in Triple-A via the Oklahoma City Comets and not with the official LA roster. But this move also clears room involving a notable infield veteran.
“No further roster moves announced yet, but that clears a 40-man spot in case they need to add a catcher and put Will Smith on the IL,” Harris added via the social media website X, formerly Twitter.
The 28-year-old never received a call up from Roberts or the Dodgers brass at any point of 2026. He delivered stellar results down in OKC, though. Fitzgerald blasted six home runs and stole three bases through 100 plate appearances. He did endure an unspecified injury during his run with the Comets.
Fitzgerald suited up for a rival not too long ago. He spent 2023 to 2025 with the San Francisco Giants, playing in 178 total games featuring 96 during the 2024 season. He pounded 142 total hits and scored 75 runs while playing for Los Angeles’ top Bay Area rival. Fitzgerald additionally ripped 21 total home runs while driving 53 runners home.
The Boston Red Sox rewarded Fitzgerald with his first MLB chance in 2016 as their 30th pick. He ultimately landed with the Giants through the amateur draft in 2019.
