Dodgers’ Kyle Tucker is self-deprecating amid miserable season in LA

The recipient of Major League Baseball’s highest annual average contract this winter, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Kyle Tucker, has had a frustrating start to his start in Hollywood. Inconsistency has plagued the former Chicago Cubs star, as the latest star addition to the Dodger lineup has fizzled out a bit. As Tucker looks to right the ship, he spoke with the New York Post’s Dylan Hernandez about trying to use a strong effort in Monday night’s 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays to get back on track.

“It can work for one at-bat or two at-bats or something, but just gotta make it consistent,” Tucker elaborated post-game. “Play so many games and have so many at-bats, so having one at-bat go your way is fine, it’s great, but you just gotta try and come back and do that every single time.”

In the first year of a four-campaign contract, Tucker is hitting just .239 with six home runs and 39 RBI, to go along with six stolen bases. A 2-for-4 outing, with a homer and three RBI against his hometown team, the Rays, could be just what the doctor ordered. However, this has happened with Tucker a few times this season already. The $60 million-dollar man’s .229 batting average in June isn’t going to cut it.

Tucker is certainly aware of that. He went into deep detail with Hernandez about the ability to stay consistent. The Dodgers’ manager, Dave Roberts, also touched on the struggles of one of his biggest stars, stating that Tucker has started to have more conversations, with his nature as a “quiet guy” falling away. If Tucker can get back to the player that proved worthy of MLB’s largest ever AAV, then LA’s chances at a World Series threepeat will grow even better.
