Dodgers’ Emmet Sheehan offers sobering take after brutal start vs. Orioles
The Los Angeles Dodgers yanked Emmet Sheehan two weeks ago during the second inning. Sheehan is yet to recover from the early pull against the Anaheim Angels on June 7. His struggles stretched to Father’s Day against the Baltimore Orioles.
Sheehan himself has emerged as his own worst critic. He became blunt about how he’s played.
“I think my execution was really bad,” Sheehan said to reporters after the brutal 12-1 loss.
He then became more blunt with himself.
“At this point, my coaches, teammates, the fans, they all deserve better than what I’m putting out there right now,” Sheehan said.
But he’s not bashing the effort he’s giving.
“I can tell you I’m giving 100%. That’s never going to change. That’s all I can say,” he said.
Manager Dave Roberts made the decision to pull Sheehan early during that 13-5 Angels loss. This time Sheehan lasted three innings, but endured new struggles.
He surrendered eight hits total including two home runs. Taylor Ward pounded the first one during the second inning toward center field. Ward faced a 95 miles per hour fastball from Sheehan.
The right hander never wavered from turning to his fastball. But Colton Cowser smacked the second one 406 feet over to center field, traveling 406 feet into the Los Angeles air. Baltimore scored six runs total facing Sheehan, who took the loss and is now 3-5 overall.
LA cycled through five different pitchers after relieving Sheehan. That included newly added Chayce McDermott, who the Dodgers added back on April 16 with the Orioles. Los Angeles ultimately called up McDermott Saturday before handing him his first Dodgers action.
