DeMario Douglas will add ‘swagger’ to Patriots’ offense in 2026

As the New England Patriots prepare for the 2026 season, the team is looking to see improvements in many areas, one being the wide receiver room. While the addition of A.J. Brown helps tremendously, the other pass-catchers also need to step up. With Patriots star Drake Maye looking to improve in 2026, one receiver who is looking to make his mark is DeMario Douglas.

Speaking to the media this past week in mandatory minicamp, Douglas would reveal what offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has told him about his place in the offense. He would say how he wants Douglas to be “more savvy” and to add his “swagger” to the mix.

“Don’t do what I see on the piece on the paper. Go add my swagger to it … add some juice to it. He believes in me, and I appreciate him for that,” Douglas said, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.

Last season with the Patriots, Douglas would record 447 yards on 31 receptions to go with three touchdowns in 17 games, as he was the fifth-leading receiver in yards with Stefon Diggs, Hunter Henry, Kayshon Boutte, and Mack Hollins ahead of him. New England star quarterback Drake Maye would speak on his impressions of Douglas, expressing his excitement for his role to “grow bigger.”

“Since I got here as a rookie, he always does the right thing, makes the right plays, makes catches. He’s hard to cover,” Maye said, via Mass Live. “You can’t guard him in a phone booth. He’s so good at breaking off in man coverage. He’s a mismatch. He’s so hard to stay in front of. Looking forward to seeing his role grow bigger.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen how the 25-year-old’s role gets bigger with the Patriots under McDaniels offense, as he will be utilized to take some pressure off of Brown after he was traded to the team from the Philadelphia Eagles. The team is looking to further improve after finishing with a 14-3 record, making it all the way to the Super Bowl, though losing to the Seattle Seahawks.
