Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing releases full 50-fighter roster including boxer who stopped Anthony Joshua

Zuffa Boxing’s roster continues to grow.

The upstart promotional outfit, fronted by Dana White and financed by Saudi Arabia, stunned the boxing world on Friday when it announced the acquisition of Conor Benn.

Benn’s move marked the end of a fruitful ten-year partnership with Matchroom Boxing and promoter Eddie Hearn, on the heels of two money-spinning bouts with Chris Eubank Jr last year.

The decision left a particularly sour taste in Hearn’s mouth after he and his team had worked tirelessly to prove Benn’s innocence following two failed drug tests ahead of an initially planned bout with Eubank Jr in 2022.

Benn’s contract with Matchroom expired in November after he exacted his revenge on Eubank Jr in a rematch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Rather than rushing to extend Benn’s deal, Hearn made the ill-advised assumption that his long-time client would ‘repay his loyalty’ and re-sign once the time was right.

This provided Zuffa Boxing with the perfect opportunity to swoop in and snap up Benn on a one-fight deal, worth a reported $15million.

While Benn is the highest-profile signing to Zuffa’s growing roster, there are a few other standout names on the 50-fighter list, released in full on Tuesday night.

Who are the most notable new signings?

Several of the athletes, such as IBF cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia and highly-ranked heavyweight contender Efe Ajagba, have either already made their Zuffa debuts or have one pencilled in at the time of writing.

However, there are plenty of fresh faces on the list.

Super heavyweight amateur standout Mihai Nistor is one such signing.

Best known for stopping Anthony Joshua at the European Amateur Championship in 2011, Nistor is a two-time European bronze medallist and seven-time Romanian national champion.

The 35-year-old turned over in 2019 and has since compiled an unblemished 8-0 record, but has so far been unable to make a breakthrough as a professional.

It has been a similar story for fellow decorated amateur Ivan Dychko (15-1) of Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh suffered a controversial defeat to Jermaine Franklin on the Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford undercard in September last year after a fruitful stint in the unpaid ranks that included two Olympic bronzes and two World Championship silvers.

Former WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo (28-2) is also a notable addition to Zuffa.

The Filipino star defeated Gary Russell Jr to claim the green and gold strap in 2022 before dropping it in his first defence to Rey Vargas.

He is currently riding a four-fight winning streak after bouncing back from a second consecutive loss to Brandon Figueroa in March 2023.

Other eye-catching additions include son of a legend, Shane Mosley Jr, World Boxing Super Series alumni Andrew Tabiti, 2016 Olympic gold medallist Daniyar Yeleussinov, and former lightweight world title challenger Edwin De Los Santos.
