Cubs rumors: 1 pitcher named possible trade target alongside Sandy Alcantara

Starting pitcher Matthew Boyd is the latest Chicago Cubs pitcher to suffer an injury. The Cubs are playing a quality brand of baseball but their starting pitching currently has serious question marks. Chicago is already being linked to multiple pitchers in trade rumors. Miami Marlins star pitcher Sandy Alcantara is expected to be a popular name at the trade deadline, but Bailey Ober of the Minnesota Twins could also be an option for the Cubs according to MLB insider Jon Morosi.

“One name that I would mention to keep an eye on, Bailey Ober yesterday pitched again for the Minnesota Twins. Pitched pretty well,” Morosi said during an appearance on MLB Network. “The game got away a little bit late on the Twins, but I would expect the Cubs to be heavily involved again in the market for starting pitching.”

Morosi later mentioned that Alcantara could be a popular trade candidate as well. Alcantara will likely be linked to almost every contender in need of a starter, but Ober should not be overlooked.

Ober, 30, has pitched to a 4.19 ERA in eight outings so far in 2026. While he has not exactly been dominant, the Twins’ right-handed hurler is a capable big league pitcher. At the very least, he could provide a ball club that is battling injuries like the Cubs with crucial depth.

It is only May and trade rumors do not typically gain momentum until June and July, but Bailey Ober will be a pitcher for Cubs fans to monitor moving forward.
