Crucial update on ex-WWE star Alberto Del Rio’s arrest & possible 20-yr jail time
Former multi-time champion and ex-WWE Superstar Alberto El Patrón (aka Alberto Del Rio), was arrested on an alleged domestic violence charge. Milenio (via Fightful) reports that Patrón was arrested on Monday, Apr. 6, 2026, for “physically and verbally assaulting his girlfriend.”
Authorities confirmed that El Patrón was taken into custody and soon transferred to the San Luis Potosí State Attorney General’s Office. He is expected to face the appropriate legal charges. Following the arrest, a mugshot of the former wrestler also surfaced on the internet and soon went viral.
On Apr. 8, 2026, the San Luis Potosí State Attorney General’s Office issued a statement regarding the matter (quotes via wrestling headlines).
“The Attorney General’s Office of the State of San Luis Potosí (FGESLP) began investigations against Alberto “N”, who is accused of the probable crime of domestic violence against his partner, in events that occurred in the Lomas del Tecnológico neighborhood, in the state capital.
“The defendant was handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office Specializing in Cases Involving Women, Families, and Sex Offenses after being arrested in the act by officers of the State Civil Guard (GCE) of the State Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPCE), following a distress call made by the victim on the afternoon of Monday, April 6.
“According to the victim’s complaint, when she encountered Alberto “N” inside a residence in the Lomas del Tecnológico neighborhood, an argument reportedly broke out that led the defendant to commit various acts of physical and verbal abuse against his partner.”
According to a subsequent Milenio report, San Luis Potosí prosecutors have the option of filing one of two charges outlined in the state’s criminal code. A conviction for domestic violence can result in a prison sentence of one to seven years and a fine of 20 to 700 UMA days.
A more severe charge: Lesiones Cometidas contra la Mujer en Razón de su Género (injuries committed against a woman based on her gender), carries a potential sentence of eight to 20 years in prison and a fine between 400 and 700 UMA days, or roughly 46,924 to 82,117 pesos. As per the report, this charge only applies in cases involving degrading or severe injuries, mutilation, or when the alleged assault follows prior threats, harassment, or a pattern of violence.
More update on former WWE star Alberto Del Rio’s arrest
As a report from Infobae México, the alleged victim has been identified as Del Rio’s wife, Mary Carmen Rodriguez Lucero, who is currently under medical and legal protection. About a month before the Apr. 6 incident, Rodríguez Lucero allegedly contacted Mexican journalist Flor Rubio via WhatsApp with the following message: “I went through a situation with my husband. It was an impulse on my part. I’ve changed my mind. I don’t want to cause trouble or make things bigger.”
The Crash Lucha Libre promotion suspended Patron after he was arrested. It has also to be noted that this is not the first time Del Rio has faced domestic violence allegations.
