Crazy Giants Logan Webb streak puts him in Madison Bumgarner territory
The San Francisco Giants squashed MLB trade rumors circling around Logan Webb five days ago. Silencing that trade talk came in great timing as it turns out. Webb entered a territory last seen by franchise legend Madison Bumgarner Sunday.
Webb threw heat in eight innings against the Miami Marlins. MLB analyst and stats expert Sarah Langs unveiled Webb has now matched franchise history.
“Logan Webb is the first Giants pitcher to go 8+ innings in three consecutive starts since Madison Bumgarner in June 2015,” Langs posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.
Langs adds how Webb can join Matt Cain in 2010 as the only Giants pitchers to throw in eight inning or more.
Webb took the 2-1 loss to Miami, though. He surrendered five hits and one home run, the latter occurring in the bottom of second. Kyle Stowers overpowered Webb’s 91 miles per hour sinker to hand Miami its first lead. Webb responded by striking out two of the next three batters to close out that inning.
The right-hander continued his efficiency on the hill in the third. He forced two fly outs and a pop out, leaving no one on base. Miami smacked its next hit off Webb during the fourth, as Otto Lopez doubled toward center to break the 1-1 tie. Webb created a ground out at second for the third out.
Webb is now 4-5 overall this season for San Francisco. He’s fanned 70 total batters this season, including hitting seven twice the last two times he pitched in eight innings.
But Sunday’s mark isn’t the first time Webb became linked to Bumgarner. He reached the second-most starts in Giants history with eight or more innings while allowing no walks.
