Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer’s emotional advice for married couples living NFL life
The Dallas Cowboys are currently taking part in mandatory minicamp as they gear up for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The Cowboys are looking to bounce back and re-enter the playoff mix in the NFC after two straight years of finishing outside the postseason bubble.
Recently, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer got 100% real on the sacrifices that families must make in order to thrive in the NFL lifestyle.
“I would not be here if it wasn’t for her,” he said, talking about his wife, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team on X, formerly Twitter. “But it’s the biggest decision you’re going to make in your life. In this business, you better find somebody that’s independent, because they wear a lot of hats, whether it’s chasing owls out of the house or things like that, moving… you find the right one, you’ve got to communicate… I’m very blessed.”
He’s not the first head coach who’s spoken about the immense toll that working in the NFL can have on one’s personal life. Head coaches haven’t exactly had a great offseason from a PR perspective when it comes to their personal relationships, but Schottenheimer may have earned them some grace with this latest quote.
Meanwhile, on the field, the Cowboys are looking to bounce back and get back in the playoff mix in the NFC, hoping that some of the additions they’ve made on the defensive side of the ball will be enough to get up to par on that end, while the offense keeps up its strong pace from last year.
The Cowboys are slated to kick off their 2026 season on September 13 against the New York Giants.
