Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer sells home listed at $3.8 million, but it’s for a good reason

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is making a significant lifestyle change ahead of the 2026 NFL season, selling his McKinney, Texas home to move closer to the team’s headquarters in Frisco. The property at 6101 Crystal Cove Court was listed on April 17 for $3.8 million and already has a buyer in place.

The move is tied directly to Schottenheimer’s work with Dallas. His previous commute to The Star in Frisco ranged from around 15 to 17 miles and could take more than 30 minutes. The second-year head coach wants to reportedly reduce travel time and spend more time at the team facility as expectations continue to rise entering the 2026 campaign.

The home itself attracted attention for more than its price tag. Built in 2021 and located in the Stonebridge Ranch community, the single-story estate spans more than 5,700 square feet on a one-acre lot, a rare feature in McKinney. The property includes four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, one half-bathroom, a three-car garage, a courtyard with a fountain, a movie room and an infinity-edge pool. The Collin County Appraisal District valued the home at nearly $2 million for tax purposes.

Schottenheimer and his family purchased the property in May 2025 through the Southern Grace Trust, which was managed by his attorney. During their short stay, the home became known for several unusual wildlife encounters. In October 2025, Schottenheimer revealed that an owl flew into the house through an open sliding door while he was in a game-planning meeting before a matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Animal control was eventually called to remove the bird safely. Earlier that season, two family dogs were reportedly bitten by snakes before a Cowboys win over the New York Giants. Later, Schottenheimer’s wife also shared video of wasps entering the home.

The relocation comes as Schottenheimer enters a crucial season with Dallas. After serving as a coaching analyst in 2022 and offensive coordinator from 2023-24, he became head coach in January 2025 following Mike McCarthy’s departure. The Cowboys finished 7-9-1 last season, missing the playoffs despite ranking seventh in points scored while allowing the most points in the league defensively.

Dallas has since added major defensive reinforcements, including Quinnen Williams, Rashan Gary, first-round safety Caleb Downs and edge rusher Malachi Lawrence. The Cowboys open the 2026 season on Sept. 13 against the Giants on Sunday Night Football.
