Corey Perry knows a thing or two about Lightning, Canadiens Game 7s
The Tampa Bay Lightning must find a way to win one more game against the Montreal Canadiens, in their Stanley Cup Playoffs series. Tampa Bay and Montreal are deadlocked 3-3 in the series, after Game 6.
Tampa Bay star Corey Perry is in a familiar position, after watching his team win Game 6 on Friday 1-0.
“Corey Perry has played in nearly as many Game 7s (11) as the entire Canadiens roster (12). He has also played in the most recent Game 7 for both franchises: Lightning (2022 R1 vs. TOR) Canadiens (2021 R1 vs. TOR) – the latter of which he scored the GWG,” NHL insider Frank Seravalli posted to X, formerly Twitter.
Perry is one of the most experienced players on the Tampa Bay roster. The Lightning winger has played in more than 240 career playoff games. In this year’s playoffs, he has yet to post a point.
It was a different Lightning player that was the hero on Friday. Gage Goncalves scored the game-winning goal for Tampa in overtime, to take Game 6.
“If you watch tonight’s game, that game didn’t need a goal. All it needed was one goal to end it,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said, per NHL.com. “It was thrilling. It was epic. It was goaltenders making extraordinary saves, players doing things that were of grace and skill and magic, and there was intensity, there were hits. It was everything. And there wasn’t a goal scored. And yet, everybody in the building was on the edge of their seats. I guess that’s how epic games become epic.”
Tampa Bay would love to have Perry break out in Game 7. The Lightning play the Canadiens in Game 7 on Sunday.
