Conor Benn’s world title ambitions put down by Devin Haney as he responds to fight criticism

Devin Haney doesn’t see Conor Benn as a worthy opponent after his criticism of his victory over Brian Norman Jr.

Benn dominated Chris Eubank Jr in the ring on November 15 to claim his lone win at middleweight.

After settling the score at 1-1 with his bitter rival, Benn reaffirmed his plans to drop back down and pursue a world title at his natural weight.

The last time he fought at 147lbs was in 2022, but regardless of that, Benn is out to challenge the top contenders in the division.

The Briton reeled off a hit list for his pending return, which included Mario Barrios, Ryan Garcia, Rolly Romero, Norman Jr and Haney.

Although Benn wasn’t impressed when watching Haney’s recent performance, and even pretended to fall asleep on Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn‘s shoulder.

Despite that, ‘The Dream’ snatched the WBO welterweight title from Norman Jr and didn’t hesitate to share his honest opinion of Benn afterwards.

During the post-fight conference, Haney said: “Conor Benn is nothing compared to me, he’s never accomplished anything.

“His biggest win is fighting a weight-drained Chris Eubank [Jnr]. He’s never been a world champion, he’s never done nothing in the sport of boxing.

“He got lucky with the opportunity [against Eubank] because he’s Eddie Hearn’s puppet. He’s accomplished nothing and he can say what he want to say. But he’s not on my level.”

What did Devin Haney’s team have to say about Conor Benn?

His trainer and father, Bill Haney, seems to share his son’s opinion of Benn.

He said: “Conor ‘When’. When is he going to get a belt?

“When is he going to do what Devin has done?

“When is he going to do something in boxing that’s on Devin Haney‘s level?

“I mean, just one thing, before you start talking to us. We did the stadium in Australia [against George Kambosos], we did that for undisputed. We did [Vasyl] Lomachenko.

“There’s a lot of tremendously talented fighters that deserve a shot.

“Let’s give the champ his well due respect.”

As the 27-year-old continued his unbeaten streak in Riyadh, he also became a three-weight champion.
