Commanders’ Javon Kinlaw is hyped to have some ‘MFers’ on the D-line

The Washington Commanders have spent the offseason reshaping their defense. Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw is already convinced the results will be felt across the NFC East. Speaking candidly about Washington’s revamped defensive front, Kinlaw didn’t hold back when describing the talent surrounding him.

“We got some MFers now. Excuse my language,” Kinlaw said while rattling off a list of teammates he believes can wreak havoc on opposing offenses.

The veteran defender specifically highlighted Odafe Oweh, Charles Omenihu, K’Lavon Chaisson, Tim Settle, and Deatrich Wise Jr., emphasizing the depth and versatility that now define Washington’s defensive line.

Oweh and Omenihu bring proven pass-rushing ability off the edge. Wise provides experience and flexibility across multiple alignments. Chaisson adds another athletic option in the rotation. Settle’s return strengthens the interior.

For the Commanders, Kinlaw’s excitement underscores the belief that the defensive line can become the foundation of that transformation. If the chemistry and energy displayed during training camp carry into the regular season, Washington could field one of its most formidable defensive fronts in years.

Kinlaw’s confidence comes from a career built on perseverance. Selected 14th overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2020, he showed promise as a rookie before knee injuries derailed parts of his next two seasons. He rebounded by playing all 17 games during the 49ers’ Super Bowl run in 2023, then delivered a career-best 4.5 sacks with the New York Jets in 2024. That breakout campaign earned him a three-year, $45 million deal with Washington, where he started every game in 2025 and posted a personal-best 43 tackles. Now entering his second season with the Commanders, Kinlaw appears eager to lead a defensive front he believes can become one of the NFL’s most feared units.
