Charles Barkley believes Jalen Brunson is 3 Knicks wins away from legendary status
New York Knicks All-Star Jalen Brunson is three wins away from attaining the one goal Hall of Fame forward Charles Barkley never achieved during his career — an NBA championship. Brunson led the Knicks to victory in Game 1, extending New York’s postgame winning streak to 10 while taking a 1-0 lead against the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.
Before Game 2, Brunson’s legacy as the Knicks’ potential title-winning leader was put into perspective, per NBA on ESPN.
“If he’s able to deliver a championship to New York, it’ll be the greatest free agent signing in NBA history,” Barkley said.
Charles Barkley isn’t exaggerating in his take on Brunson and the Knicks. It’s been 53 years since the Knicks last won a title. And while the drought is significant, taking into account the fact that very few predicted New York to be three wins shy of a championship. Some labeled them favorites to win the Eastern Conference, but beating which ever team would be representing the Western Conference wasn’t part of the season predictions.
Brian Windhorst’s warning for Knicks’ Jalen Brunson

ESPN”s Brian Windhorst had a warning for Jalen Brunson ahead of the Knicks’ Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Spurs. While Brunson’s 30 points helped the Knicks erase a 14-point deficit en route to a 10-point win to take a 1-0 lead, it was far from his best performance, Windhorst said, per ESPN’s NBA Today.
“I don’t think Jalen [Brunson] thinks he even played that well,” Windhorst said. “I don’t think the Spurs feel they did a bad job on him because he’s 12-of-31… Brunson knows he can play better, … and what if he does? What if he actually has a good game tonight?”
The Spurs will host the Knicks in Game 2 on Friday.
