The final day of the Championship season takes place on Saturday lunchtime, with the battle for automatic promotion and the play-offs still very much up in the air.

The battle for automatic promotion in the Championship this season has gone down to the very last day, with three teams separated by two points vying for the all important second automatic promotion spot in a bid to join champions Coventry in the Premier League next season.

Ipswich head into Saturday very much in the driving seat in the race for the top two, knowing a home win against a midtable QPR side will guarantee their return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Millwall are bidding for their first ever season in the Premier League and start the day a point behind the Tractor Boys in first place ahead of their home clash with an already relegated Oxford side.

Despite only being a point behind, the Lions’ goal difference is far inferior to Ipswich’s, so only a win will do for the London side, who will also be relying on them dropping ones.

The final time in the frame for the automatic is Middlesbrough, a further point behind Millwall, who not only must win but also need Ipswich to lose and Alex Neil’s men to also drop points.

The Teesside club’s promotion push is made slightly more complicated by their opponents, Wrexham, who start the day in the final play-off spot.

Victory should be enough to keep alive the Welsh side’s hopes of a fourth consecutive promotion, but with Hull level on points with them and only one goal worse off on goal difference, even a victory might not be enough if the Tigers win big.

The Yorkshire side either need to better the Dragons’ result or overturn a two goal swing with a win (or even potentially a defeat), but their case is made more difficult as they take on a Norwich side who have picked up the second most points in the league since the turn of the year.

The final team in the play-off picture are Derby, who head into the weekend in eighth place but are just one point off the play-offs, and boast a better goal differnence than both of the teams above them, which could prove decisive.

The Rams take on a midtable Sheffield United side knowing they need to better the results of both Wrexham and Hull in their bid for a return to the Premier League for the first time since their disastrous campaign in 2007-08.
