Celtics news: Derrick White takes giant hammer to media’s Jayson Tatum-Jaylen Brown narratives

Without a doubt, the Boston Celtics are a contender this year. Currently, they are 54-25 and are on a four-game winning streak. Plus, they are second in the Eastern Conference. On Thursday, Jayson Tatum makes his reluctant return to MSG to take on the New York Knicks.

At the same time, fellow star Jaylen Brown and company have his back. Therby squashing any perceived beef between the two upon Tatum’s return from an Achilles injury.

One of those refuting any beef is Derrick White, per The Hoops Tonight podcast/Hoops Hype. He specifically called out media narratives.

“I think the media always try to create narratives, and I think that’s just kind of an easy one for them to pick,” he said. “It doesn’t really make much sense to me, because the two of them have had so much success. The Celtics have been in the Eastern Conference Finals damn near every year of their NBA careers, which does not happen. Obviously, it’s tough to get over that final hurdle, but whatever the media wants to say has never really come into the locker room. I think those two handle it really well. They’re completely different, but we make it work, and it’s been great to watch their development. Every year, like I’ve said, they get better and better. Teams probably tried to force them into a corner before, but now they’re playmaking and creating for others, and that’s stuff that takes time. They definitely put the work in, they want to get better, and they both do it on both sides of the court. So it’s a blessing to play with both of them.”

On Wednesday, Tatum scored 23 points and grabbed five boards in a 113-102 win over the Charlotte Hornets.
