Celtics’ Jaylen Brown shares video on IG Story that calls him ‘best player on championship team’

The Boston Celtics have been embroiled in trade rumors over the last several weeks, mostly involving star wing Jaylen Brown. The Celtics recently swung and missed on Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was traded from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat, but some have wondered if their relationship with Brown may have deteriorated past the point of no return in the process.

Brown himself has been adding plenty of fuel to the fire with social media posts and quotes, and that continued on Saturday with an eyebrow-raising video posted to his Instagram story, in which a user claimed that he, not Jayson Tatum, was the best player on Boston’s 2024 NBA championship team.

While Brown indeed won NBA Finals MVP over Tatum against the Dallas Mavericks that season, Tatum is generally viewed as the more well-rounded number one option for Boston, and has not been dangled in nearly as many trade rumors as Brown over the years, which could be playing a major role in Brown’s frustration. Still, regardless of one’s opinion on the debate, the fact that Brown publicly co-signed an opinion that he is the best player on his team isn’t a great look for either him or the Celtics moving forward.

Brown also sent off a tirade of posts on X, formerly Twitter, listing his accomplishments on Saturday, which continued to fuel speculation that he is fed up with the Celtics and is looking for an opportunity to be a number one option somewhere else. At this point, Boston hasn’t received an offer for Brown that’s been too good to turn down, but the pressure could increase as the star’s discontent grows increasingly obvious.

Clearly, Brown is not shying away from making his opinion known publicly.
