Celtics’ Jaylen Brown drops intriguing comment after All-NBA Second Team reveal

Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics was named to the All-NBA second team. This honor pleased the Celtics’ superstar even though he appeared to be in contention for the league’s Most Valuable Player Award for a majority of the season.

Brown was joined by New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell and the Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard on the second team.

The first team consists of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs, Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers and Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons.

Gilgeous-Alexander was named the league’s MVP last week with Doncic second in the voting and Wembanyama was third. Brown received votes for that award.

Brown seemed pleased to be named to the second team. “I’m grateful. God is the greatest,” Brown said after the vote totals were announced. “I’m not the most liked. Sometimes I use my platform a little controversially. I’m surprised I win awards at all sometimes.”

Brown involved in feud with Stephen A. Smith

Brown has been in a recent war of words with ESPN host Stephen A. Smith. Brown recently said that the 2025-26 season was his favorite year in the NBA. Smith called him out for saying that when the Celtics were eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs after building a 3-1 lead over the Philadelphia 76ers. Brown and Smith have gone back and forth with insults and implied threats since then.

Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game this season and led the Celtics to the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference even though running mate Jayson Tatum was out most of the year after he suffered an Achilles injury in the 2025 playoffs.
