Cavs’ Kenny Atkinson teases bombshell change with season on line vs. Knicks
The Cleveland Cavs are staring at the edge of their NBA Playoffs run, and Kenny Atkinson may be ready to change everything against the New York Knicks. The Cavs now faces its harshest test after Cleveland fell to New York, 121-108, in Game 3. The Knicks now lead the series 3-0, and the pressure inside the building feels impossible to ignore.
After the loss, Atkinson addressed the Cavs’ next steps during his postgame press conference, via SNY TV. His answer carried more than routine recovery talk. It sounded like a coach searching for one last move.
"Do we extend our rotation? That's something we could do. Gotta look at it…"

“Yeah, we’ve got to look at it. Do we go back and extend our rotation again? That’s something we could do. We’ve got to look at it.”
For the Cavs, that could mean testing one or two more players as they fight to keep their season alive.
“Obviously, our guys will get on to recovery habits and all that, but we could look at playing a guy or two more. That’s a possibility.”
That is not a small comment. Not now, and not with the Cavs’ season on the line.
Cavs face brutal history after Knicks take control
The Cavs now need four straight wins to survive. No NBA team has ever successfully come back from a 3-0 deficit in the playoffs. A few teams have forced a Game 7, but none finished the job.
That makes Kenny Atkinson’s possible rotation change feel urgent after the Cavs looked worn down in Game 3. The Knicks played with more force, more balance, and more belief under the playoff lights. Cleveland still has talent and pride, but pride alone will not close this gap.
Extending the Cavs’ rotation could mean fresh legs. It could mean new matchups. It could also mean desperation. At this stage, that may not be a bad thing.
The Cavs have one more chance to make the Knicks uncomfortable. One more chance to turn a dead series into a fight. Can Atkinson find the right move before time runs out?
