Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell reveals strategy to take down Knicks before it’s too late

Donovan Mitchell and the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to need urgency after losing Game 3 to the New York Knicks on Saturday night.

Mitchell is going through the ninth season of his NBA career, his fourth with the Cavaliers. Having made the playoffs every year so far, he finally accomplished a milestone in his ninth attempt.

Following many years of second-round exits, Mitchell got over the hump after beating the Toronto Raptors and the Detroit Pistons in the first two rounds. This allowed him and Cleveland to punch their ticket to the Conference Finals, the first of Mitchell’s career and Cleveland’s first since 2018.

However, their time in the East Finals has been brutal. They suffered a historic fourth-quarter collapse in Game 1 as their offense has been unable to keep up with New York’s in Games 2 and 3. As a result, Mitchell only listed a few things that Cleveland must do to get back in the series.

“You’ve had three tries and you haven’t done it yet. What’s it going to take to beat this team?” a reporter asked after the game.

“Let’s start with making some shots, getting some stops, and making some free throws,” Mitchell answered.

How Donovan Mitchell, Cavaliers played against Knicks

Donovan Mitchell and the Cavaliers have their backs against the wall. Trailing 3-0 in the series, one more loss ends their season, something they will try to at delay at the very least.

Five players scored in double-digits for Cleveland in the loss, including Mitchell. He manned the attack with 23 points, four assists, three steals, and one rebound. Evan Mobley led the team in scoring with 24 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a block. James Harden came next with 19 points and five assists, while Jarrett Allen had 17 points and seven rebounds.

The Cavaliers hope to avoid the series sweep and stay alive when they host the Knicks in Game 4. The contest takes place on May 25 at 8 p.m. ET.
