Cavs’ Dan Gilbert sends powerful message after ECF downfall vs. Knicks

The Cleveland Cavaliers had high hopes after upsetting the Detroit Pistons in a seven-game duel in the second round of the playoffs. They felt confident, mighty, and tough heading into the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks. It was hard to blame them.

The Cavaliers, however, were quickly slapped with a reality check, as they were swept by the Knicks, losing by an average margin of 19.2 points.

It was a bitter experience for the Wine and Gold, to say the least. But it could only fuel the team to work harder. As they say, nothing good comes easy.

Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert posted a powerful message after their defeat in Game 4 at Rocket Arena on Monday.

“We took a step ahead this spring, but we are nowhere near where we need to be. I can’t thank the fans enough for the support this year. We will dig in all summer and do everything we possibly can to take the next step. We will grind until we get there,” wrote Gilbert on X.

“Congrats to the @nyknicks, and best of luck in the finals.”

Gilbert and the front office will enter the offseason with key decisions to make on guards Donovan Mitchell and James Harden and coach Kenny Atkinson, who deemed their season a success.

Fans expressed their gratitude to the 64-year-old businessman, while also suggesting that the Cavaliers should try to get LeBron James from the Los Angeles Lakers and hire either Tom Thibodeau or Jason Kidd to replace Atkinson.

Gilbert also issued a strong message after Cleveland blew a 22-point lead in Game 1 against the Knicks, reiterating his undying belief in his team.
