Next Premier League manager to leave odds: Carrick down to 8/1 as De Zerbi slips to joint favourite

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick is now as short as 8/1 to be the first Premier League manager to lose their job this season, while Tottenham boss Roberto de Zerbi is into joint favourite.

talkSPORT BET had priced the United manager at higher than 25/1 prior to the start of the new campaign, but a humiliating 2-0 opening day loss to newly promoted Hull has the vultures circling over Old Trafford. The full odds list can be found here.

Sergej Jakirovic of Hull and Gary O’Neil were priced as the two favourites to be the first Premier Lague manager to lose their job prior to the opening weekend of the season, but both recorded wins when they perhaps weren’t expected to on Saturday afternoon.

Hull most notably defied the odds to return a 2-0 victory against a highly fancied Manchester United side who finished third in the standings last season.

The Tigers are heavy odds on favourites to be relegated from the Premier League after just one season following their shock promotion from the Championship last time out via the play offs, in a campaign in which many had expected them to be involved in a relegation battle.

Optimism was high for Carrick and Man Utd, particularly at the start of the season after being drawn to play against two newly promoted teams to kickstart the season, but the Red Devils will head into Sunday’s clash with Ipswich without a point to their name following a hugely disappointing performance on Saturday lunchtime.

De Zerbi has also fallen from 14/1 to joint favourite at 6/1 to be the first manager sacked following Tottenham’s 3-0 thrashing by Brentford on Saturday evening.

There had been excitement brewing in the white half of north London following a transfer window in which they’ve splashed hundreds of millions of pounds on numerous new signings, but after a chastening defeat on Saturday it’s quickly gone back to looking quite bleak for Spurs.

New Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner is also joint favourite following an opening day defeat at home by Leeds.

Glasner is highly rated as a manager having led Crystal Palace to FA Cup, Conference League and Community Shield success in the last 15 months.

However, Forest went through four different permanent managers last season and such is the cut throat nature of their owner Evangelos Marinakis, it seems a manager sacking is never too far away.

It’s also worth noting that Unai Emery, who had previously been one of the longest prices to be first to leave, is now priced at 10/1 following a 4-0 defeat at Brighton following a tempestuous summer with a mass exodus of first team players.
