Carnell Tate signs $51 million fully-guaranteed contract with Titans
The Tennessee Titans on Friday signed wide receiver Carnell Tate to a fully guaranteed four-year rookie contract worth $51.1 million. The agreement includes a $33.6 million signing bonus after Tennessee selected Tate with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Tate became one of the highest draft picks from the 2026 class to officially sign his rookie deal. Under the current collective bargaining agreement, first-round contract values are tied to draft position, making negotiations more straightforward than in previous years.
The former Ohio State standout arrives in Tennessee after two productive seasons with the Buckeyes. He caught 51 passes for 875 yards and nine touchdowns in 2025 after recording 52 catches for 733 yards and four scores during Ohio State’s national championship run in 2024.
Tate was also the highest-selected wide receiver in the 2026 draft and the highest-drafted receiver chosen by the Titans franchise since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. Tennessee selected him ahead of several defensive prospects, including fellow Ohio State players Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese.
The Titans are counting on Tate to become a central piece of their offense alongside quarterback Cam Ward, whom the franchise selected first overall in 2025. Last season was another frustrating one for Tennessee offensively, with the team averaging 16.7 points per game, the third-lowest mark in the NFL, during a second straight 3-14 campaign.
The organization also added another proven weapon to its receiving corps in Wan’Dale Robinson after his 92-catch, 1,014-yard, four-touchdown 2025 season with the New York Giants.
The Titans’ new coaching staff, led by head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, now has Tate under contract before offseason team activities begin later this month. Tennessee still has two unsigned draft picks in Keldric Faulk and Anthony Hill Jr.
